College Band of the RAF
On Thursday 30th January, Newark Academy became home to the College Band of the RAF who kindly delivered a fabulous, hour-long performance to all members of Year 7, along with a number of our other students, who are currently studying an instrument. The concert began by inviting everyone to ‘clap along’, as the Band performed ‘Happy’ by Pharell Williams. The mood certainly remained high as the RAF Musicians made their way through an engaging and thrilling programme, providing something for everyone. There were numerous highlights, however the moment the Director or Music, Lt Chris I’Anson invited Newark Academy Instrumentalists to join the Band and help deliver the concert was truly memorable not only for those students but also for those who watched on in joy and delight! Newark Academy was also delighted to host staff and children from the Sir Donald Bailey Academy, who through links made between music departments, also enjoyed the experience.
Through events such as this, external visit opportunities and an ambitious and ever-evolving music curriculum, students at Newark Academy are hopefully experiencing the joy of music and performance at every moment.
