In Sociology, students are encouraged to question and hypothesise about the way society functions and has changed over time. By exploring key topics in sociology, students are taught the skills necessary to be able to consider what affects different ways people have of living their life. We will explore the impact of political policies and use data to consider why and how society has changed over time.
In NA6, students follow the AQA course. Students will cover the compulsory topics of education, crime and deviance, research methods, methods in context and sociological theory. The remaining topics are optional and the choice of topic is likely to include families and households and beliefs in society.
Teaching and learning in sociology is designed to enable students to utilise and develop a range of skills including practical research skills, extended writing, critical evaluation and data analysis. Activities will include research tasks, group projects and presentations, class discussion and creative thinking tasks.
