Year 11 Visit Nottingham Trent University

'Key Skills Day' proved very useful. (Year 11 - 04/11/2016)

On Friday 21st October 2016, Newark Academy Year 11 students visited Nottingham Trent University and engaged in an outstanding ‘Key Skills Day’ provided my both the academy and external providers.

The day focussed on sending students away with key revision and exam technique that will undoubtedly help pupils in their future studies. The day also gave learners the opportunity to tour the Nottingham Trent University campus and speak to existing students of the university about future education beyond Year 11.

As part of the day the students of Newark Academy were also spoken to by one of the UK’s leading motivational speakers, Kevin Mincher. The creator of UnstoppableTeen.com gave the students an unforgettable experience and amazing guidance to help them progress to where they want to go.

Students found the whole day very worthwhile commenting on how inspirational Kevin’s presentation was, and that being at the university has given them an insight into their future education. Emma Marum said: “I feel it’s going to help me progress through Year 11, especially with exam techniques!” While Sophie Cunningham commented: “It was really insightful and will help me with my future studies. I particularly enjoyed the tour of the facilities”

Head of Year 11, Mr Athey said: “Newark Academy would like to thank the students for their exemplary attitude throughout the course of the day and hope the skills they learned during this day will make a big difference.”
