Best GCSE results ever for Newark Academy

Newark Academy has secured their best ever GCSE results following the publication of the tougher ‘new’ style GCSE results. The academy has made progress on every single measure and have seen the pass rates in English and Maths increase significantly with sharp increases in the percentage of students achieving a strong pass (5+) in English and maths since the previous year.

47% of Year 11s achieve a ‘strong’ pass (5) in English and Maths which is a 15% increase since the previous year and places the academy well above the previous national average for this measure. The academy also saw a 11% increase in the number of students who secured a ‘standard’ pass (4) with 67% of students gaining a 4+ in both English and Maths—again, well above national averages.

Notable mentions include:

The were some notable success stories with Year 11 Amy Birch securing 5 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s, 2 grade 7s and an A and will now study A Levels at Newark Academy College next year.

Year 11 Robin Hough secured 3 9s, 3 8s, 1 7, 1 A* and 1 A and will pursue his passion for Computer Science at Post 16.

Year 11 Liam Parr secured 7 8s, 1 7, 1 A and 1 B and will study A Levels at Newark Academy College next year.

Andy Seymour, Headteacher, commented:

“I am so proud of our students and am thrilled to see so many of them achieve such wonderful outcomes. They have worked exceptionally hard and at times have given more to their studies than can be reasonable expected, but this has clearly paid off. It was wonderful to see so many students collect their results and I am delighted that so many of our amazing Year 11s will stay on with us in our newly-formed Newark Academy College in September.

It has been a hugely challenging year as students have had to endure, longer, tougher examinations and staff have had to prepare students by interpreting new and more demanding specifications with very little guidance from examination boards. I am equally proud of our staff who have supported our students throughout the past year and have worked tirelessly to prepare them for these exams.

Our results clearly demonstrate that our academy is making substantial progress and these outcomes will act as a strong platform for further growth and success establishing Newark Academy as a ‘great’ local school of choice for the town.”

Ash Rahman, Executive Head Teacher, added:

“Newark Academy continues to go from strength to strength and these outcomes reflect that. They are the best outcomes the academy has ever had—we are particularly pleased with the percentage of pupils securing 5+ in English and Maths. Congratulations to everybody connected with the academy.”
