A week of Remembrance

On Friday 11th November at 11.00am all students at Newark Academy observed a minutes silence in honour of Remembrance. Scott Hossack, Year 13, played ‘The Last Post’ in the Newark Academy Courtyard by the poppy sculpture. Students observed one minutes silence alongside Scott and it was an extremely respectful occasion.

The minutes silence brought closure to a week of Remembrance based performance assemblies called ‘Letters Home’ which told the story of a young couple in love during the war which featured actual images of WW1 soldiers and a letter home to the family of a young soldier out on the front line of 1914.

As well as the performances, on Tuesday 8th November, 20 year 7 students visited the National Memorial Arboretum along with representatives from the Balderton British Legion. Students attended a Remembrance Service and laid a wreath of poppies at the Royal Signals Memorial. They also explored a replica WW1 trench, reflected on the importance of peace across the world and wrote letters of thanks to our guests from the Balderton branch of the British Legion.

And on remembrance Sunday itself, several Newark Academy students also took part in Remembrance Parades including Michael Sirignano Yr11 and Ashley Taylor.
