Independent Learning

KS3 and KS4

In Science students will receive a variety of homework. A flavour of which and expectations of deadlines can be seen below:

We set core questions for our students for every topic across the three Science disciplines and throughout their learning journey at Newark Academy. This is to support recall and retrieval opportunities to ensure our learners secure all of the core knowledge needed to be highly successful scientists.

Homework to consolidate learning from the lesson will be set by teaching staff with a deadline of one week.

Every 2-3 weeks students will have topic tests in Science and their homework will be to revise for these. Revision will be written in student planners. Under-performance in the topic tests will result in after school intervention, therefore, students need to ensure they revise effectively. Science support is available for any student Monday – Thursday, this has to be arranged with their teacher.

Occasionally students may be set a longer term homework e.g. research ‘mass spectrometry’ the students will then present their findings. This type of homework will have deadlines of up to 3 weeks.
