Race for Life 2017
On the penultimate day of term, Monday 24th July, Newark Academy's annual Race for Life was back. This year all girls and all female staff were invited to take part in an event to raise awareness and sponsorship for Cancer Research.
The day started with rain clouds above but this did not put the girls off wearing pink and getting dressed up for the occasion, glitter was the accessory of the day.
As the girls arrived to school they gathered in the sports hall ready for our VIP guest speaker, Dee Higgins, and the warm up kindly organised by Newark Leisure Centre and delivered by their very own 'Ava'.
The rain eased off just in time for the start of the event and we all made our way out to the field for a mass start. The girls were in high spirits as they gathered ready for the countdown to begin.
And they were off, 1,2,3,4 and even 5 laps were completed by the crowd before they started to head into the finishing funnel to collect their Race for Life medal.
Next years plans are already underway with some special arrangements for the boys to join in with the fundraising as well as the girls.
